I remember as a little girl my relatives dancing to 'Good Foot' and 'Sex Machine'. I saw the Godfather two years ago at B.B. King's. Even in his 70s he still had it. May he RIP.

Around 1979 or 80 while serving in the U.S.Navy I was visiting Benidorm, Spain and James Brown was scheduled to do a concert there (there were posters all over town). A group of us were walking down the street when we noticed on the other side of the street none other than THE GODFATHER himself!! We went over and greeted him and he proceeded to talk for what seemed like forever telling us about Dorie Miller and Joe Louis' contributions. He has definitely always been one of my favorites and I'll never forget that day !!

HOLA CHULA. I WAS REMEMBERING BACK IN 1964 MY UNCLE COMING TO STAY WITH US(MY DAD'S BROTHER). HE HAD A COLLECTION OF 45'S THAT YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE. I HAD NEVER HEARD OF JAMES BROWN BECAUSE WE ONLY LISTENED TO SPANISH MUSIC. YEAH WE HAD TO LISTEN TO WHAT DAD LISTENED TO. BUT ONE DAY MY BROTHERS AND I SNUCK INTO HIS ROOM AND I FELL IN LOVE WITH JAMES BROWN AND MANY OTHERS. THIS WAS OUR 1ST EXPOSURE TO SOUL AND ENGLISH MUSIC. BUT IT WASN'T LONG-LIVED OUR UNCLE CAUGHT US AND IN ANGER BROKE THE 45 AND I FELT SO HURT THAT HE HAD THE NERVE TO DESTROY SUCH WONDERFUL MUSIC. YOU WERE BLESSED TO BE ABLE TO SEE HIM IN CONCERT BUT I FELT BLESSED TO HAVE THE FIRST ENGLISH MUSIC BE SOUL AND JAMES BROWN. STILL CAN FEEL THAT FEELING WITHIN CAN'T EXPLAIN IT ANYWAY THOUGHT I'D SHARE THAT.

Sheila, I didn't know where else to post the following comments: Alice Coltrane and Michael Brecker died this weekend. I have no more details as of yet, but the sources are quite reliable.
